What you can automate with Flow Trigger

Flow Trigger is the event-listening counterpart to the Flow node in n8n. While the Flow node lets you send data to Microsoft Power Automate, Flow Trigger starts your n8n workflow when something happens in a Power Automate flow. This means actions taken inside the Microsoft ecosystem — such as a new SharePoint file upload, a Teams message, or an Outlook event — can automatically kick off processing in n8n. This trigger is essential for organisations that want n8n to react to Microsoft 365 events without polling. Instead of periodically checking for changes, Flow Trigger receives a push notification from Power Automate the moment something happens. For example, when a new document lands in a SharePoint folder, Power Automate can instantly notify n8n to extract data from that document, process it through AI nodes, and update an external database — all within seconds of the upload. At Osher, we’ve built automated data processing workflows that use Flow Trigger as the entry point from Microsoft environments. One common pattern is document processing: a file arrives in SharePoint, triggers a Power Automate flow, which calls n8n via Flow Trigger, and n8n handles the heavy lifting — OCR, data extraction, validation, and routing to the appropriate system. It’s a clean separation of responsibilities that keeps both platforms doing what they do best.

Common questions about how Flow Trigger consultants can help with integration and implementation

The Flow node sends data from n8n to Power Automate, while Flow Trigger starts an n8n workflow when a Power Automate flow sends data to it. Flow Trigger is the listening side — it waits for incoming events from the Microsoft ecosystem.

How it works

We work hand-in-hand with you to implement Flow Trigger

As Flow Trigger consultants we work with you hand in hand build more efficient and effective operations. Here’s how we will work with you to automate your business and integrate Flow Trigger with integrate and automate 800+ tools.

Step 1

Add Flow Trigger to Your Workflow

In the n8n editor, add a Flow Trigger node as the starting point of your workflow. This node generates a webhook URL that Power Automate will call when the specified event occurs.

Step 2

Copy the Webhook URL

Once the Flow Trigger node is created, copy its webhook URL. You'll need this URL in Power Automate to configure where event data should be sent when the trigger conditions are met.

Step 3

Create a Power Automate Flow

In Power Automate, create a new flow with the trigger event you want to monitor — such as a new SharePoint file, incoming email, or Teams message. Add an HTTP action that sends a POST request to the n8n webhook URL.

Step 4

Configure the HTTP Action Payload

In the Power Automate HTTP action, define the JSON payload to send to n8n. Include all the data fields your n8n workflow needs to process — such as file names, email content, user details, or any dynamic values from the trigger event.

Step 5

Build Processing Logic in n8n

After the Flow Trigger node, add the n8n nodes that will process the incoming data. This might include data transformation, AI processing, database updates, or notifications to external systems like Slack or Airtable.

Step 6

Activate and Test End-to-End

Activate the n8n workflow, then trigger the Power Automate event (for example, upload a file to the monitored SharePoint folder). Verify that the event reaches n8n and the entire workflow executes correctly from trigger to final action.
